    The heroine of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. Havingbeen shipwrecked on the coast of Illyria, she disguises herself asa page under the name Cesario. In this guise she woos the lady Oliviaon behalf of Orsino, Duke of Illyria, with whom she herself is inlove. Eventually the various misunderstandings are unravelled andViola weds Orsino. She speaks mainly in prose as Cesario and in verseas herself.
