• For a given wave, a surface which contains all the points having the same phase at a given instant. For an electromagnetic wave, for instance, such a surface is perpendicular to the direction of travel of the energy. Also called wave surface.
• The rising portion of a waveform, as opposed to the wave tail which is the falling portion.
