- An enclosure which is able to maintain an oscillating electromagnetic field when suitably excited. The geometry of the cavity determines the resonant frequency, which is usually in the microwave range. Used, for instance, in klystrons, or magnetrons, or as a filter. Also known by various other names, including cavity (2), cavity resonator, resonant chamber, resonating cavity, microwave cavity, microwave resonance cavity, and rhumbatron.
