  • Any of several high-strength, low-carbon steel alloys that, when exposed to normal atmospheric conditions, form a thin, protective orange or brown patina that is four to eight times more corrosion resistant than plain, low-carbon steels. weathering steel is not appropriate in environments where it would be exposed to extreme wetness.
