• Abbreviation of wideband code-division multiple access. A third-generation wireless technology which has a significantly wider bandwidth than ordinary CDMA, and provides much greater throughput, which can exceed 2 Mbps. It is an ITU standard, and is used, for instance, in GSM as an improvement over TDMA. Also spelled wide-band CDMA. Its own abbreviation is WCDMA.
