- A small herbivorous gastropod mollusc, Littorina littorea, up to 2.5 cm long found in most coastal waters and usually sold cooked either shelled or still in its shell. They have to be extracted with a long pin or winkle pick. Rather tasteless and usually eaten with vinegar.
