Wolf-Rayet Stars

  • Stars with a peculiar spectrum indicating that they are surrounded by dense gas clouds and are suffering nova-like mass loss at a rapid rate. The Wolf-Rayets are among the hottest stars known with surface temperatures of up to 100,000K and are sometime regarded as belonging to a category, the W stars, hotter than the O stars which are the hottest in the standard sequence of spectral types.
