Worcestershire sauce



  • A thin strong-flavoured sauce usually used to add flavour to sauces and cooked dishes. Made commercially from vinegar, molasses, sugar, salt, anchovies, tamarind, shallots, garlic and spices. It is said to have originated when a barrel of vinegar and spices made up for a customer with Indian connections by the pharmacist’s shop, Lea and Perrins, in the early 19th century was not collected and bottled for sale by the pharmacist.
