X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy
- Chemical analysis technique which makes use of X-rays emitted by different elements after bombardment by the X-rays produced by a source carried within the instrument. Used inter alia on the experiments carried to the surface of Mars on the Viking spacecraft.
- An spectroscopic technique in which an electron microprobe directs a finely focused electron beam towards samples which then emit characteristic X-rays. Used, for instance, to determine the composition of materials. Its abbreviation is XRF.
