Zodiacal Light

Definition

Astronomy

  • Faint glow visible along the Zodiac (especially at dawn and dusk, and under very good observing conditions), caused by dusty material in the plane of the solar system scattering sunlight to an observer on the Earth. The Zodiacal light has been cited as evidence that some of the material deposited in the inner solar system by comets is large enough to avoid being dispersed by radiation pressure.
